Franklin Elementary Walk/Bike to School Challenge — May 5-9

It’s the 1st Annual Walk or Bike to School Challenge at Franklin Elementary! During the week of May 5-9, students at Franklin Elementary will be challenged to walk or ride their bikes to school. The Coulee Region will be celebrating Bike to Work Week during this time and this challenge is just one of many opportunities for families to put on their tennis shoes or strap on a bike helmet and leave the car behind. Students that participate will be eligible for cool prizes that will be awarded on Thursday, April 8 at the PTO Art Night. In conjunction with this challenge, we will be kicking-off a new program called a Walking School Bus. This is part of an initiative to encourage students to walk or bike to school called Safe Routes to School. A Walking School Bus, or WSB, is a group of children walking to school supervised by adults. Sound simple? It is! The walking school bus will run everyday during the week of May 5-9 and every Wednesday for the rest of May. The “bus stop” will be at the corner of Wood and Gillette Street and will be lead by parent/PTO volunteers. Watch your child’s backpack in April for more information and how your child can participate.
